WELLS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

BASKETBALL & CHEERING TRYOUTS  2017/18

Basketball tryouts for students in grades 7 & 8 will begin on Monday, November 6, 2017.

Cheering tryouts for students in grades 7 & 8 will begin on Monday, November 27, 2017.

These “Winter Athletic” teams include: “7th and 8th Grade Cheering”, “8th Grade Boys Basketball”, “8th Grade Girls Basketball”, “7th Grade Boys Basketball”,  “7th Grade Girls Basketball”. Sign ups for these sports will be posted outside the locker rooms starting October 25th.

Students who wish to “tryout” for the teams must be on the schools “physicals” list. This list is compiled by the school nurse, Mrs. Collins, from physicals that were given over the summer here at school or physicals that were performed by a family doctor and the paperwork turned in to the nurses office. If your son/daughter did a town sport (football and cheering) we do not have a copy of their physical if turned into the town sport coaches. Physicals are good for one year from the date of the exam.  If a physical runs out during the season the student/athlete will automatically become ineligible on that date, and remain ineligible until an updated physical form is turned in.  The “Physicals List” is posted on the bulletin board outside the locker rooms.  Please make sure your name is on the list before coming to tryouts.

11/12/14:

Please check out the video from the first Student Athlete Summit:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -LOCKERS: Student/Athletes should not be leaving personal belongings/valuables in the locker room unless they are locking them in a locker.  If a student wants to "own" a locker to put their things in during practices and games they need to bring in a combination lock and give the combination to Mr. MacLeod or Ms. Savage.  DO NOT LEAVE THINGS IN THE LOCKER ROOM UNLESS THEY ARE LOCKED IN A LOCKER! THIS INCLUDES LAPTOP COMPUTERS!!!!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Physicals: You must have a valid “physical” on file with the school nurse in order to participate.  If you had a “physical” over the summer here at the school you are automatically on the list.  If you had a “physical” from your family doctor you need to turn in a copy of the physical to the school nurse to be added to the list.  “Physicals” are good for one year from the date of the physical.  If your physical expires during the season you will not be able to participate until you get an updated one.

Games: 7th grade teams will play the first game all year, in all sports, if it is a "same gender" doubleheader.  If it is a boy/girl doubleheader the BOYS teams will play the first game.  This is true for all sports this year within the league.
